Your learning will be presented in the form of a mind map. It is intended as an introductory exercise and you will have lots of questions about the how mind maps should be designed and how useful they may be for your future learning................sadly these questions can only be answered by yourselves. MindMaps should be personal to yourself and they map be of limited value to a small percentage of you.
Aims:
To know where in the world tropical storms form and the conditions needed for them to grow.
To understand the hazard they pose to many in the world.
To be able to offer a case study of a severe tropical storm (hurricane Katrina)
To be able to explain why Katrina was particularly damaging.
In addition to these academic aims most of you will gain an understanding of what a mind map is and how they van prove useful in a learning environment.
Outcome:
Each pupil will produce a "mind map" on A3 paper. Each mind map must contain certain information (see below).
You should aim to dedicate approximately half the space available to the topic of tropical storms in general and the remainder should focus on Hurricane Katrina.
Work will be done in class on what information you should be looking to include and notes on this may appear here at a later date.
AS a guide though you should remember the What? Why? Where? Who? When? and How? pricipals to Geography.
